White ampalaya (white bitter gourd) is a variety of the subtropical fruit of the Cucurbitacae family. It is classified as a vegetable-fruit because of its unique features. Its more popular variant is the green ampalaya. White bitter gourds are usually smaller compared to green ones but its crunchy and watery texture, flavor, consistency and distinctive warty surface remains.
Bitter gourds are characterized by their nutrient-density as it is an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, and B3, C, magnesium, folic acid, zinc, phosphorus, manganese, and has high dietary fiber.
